\nWater and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) on Wednesday formally launched sanitation operation in Union Council Pakha Ghulam. The company allocated staff and machinery that has started work. Municipal inspectors and supervisors were assigned localities and points who would be responsible for its cleanliness.
\nThe operation was inaugurated during a ceremony held here which was attended by Zonal Manager Engr Tariq Aziz, Manager Solid Waste Gohar Ali, Manager Citizen Liaison Cell Muhammad Ismail and former elected representatives of district government including Sibghatullah.
\nSpeaking the occasion, Ismail said that waste bins have been provide, staff hired and machinery allocated while extra machinery is being procured.
\nHe explained masses\u2019 roles and responsibilities for effective and result-oriented sanitation, asking people to play their part of duty if they really want to see a positive change in terms of cleanliness.
\n\u201cIf you throw waste in streets and drains and leave it to WSSP, then no matter how effective operation we launch and modern machinery we use would never make any difference,\u201d he said.
\nWSSP will pick garbage dumps and desilt major drains in the first phase of operation, he said and added that time and designated places would be pointed out during awareness drives scheduled to be launched next week.
\nLauding the company for its role in sanitation and water supply services, Arbab Khudad said that sanitation was a collective responsibility that should not be left to the government alone.
\nHe urged the masses to play a role in keeping their houses and streets clean. \u201cIf you throw waste all around and then expect the WSSP to remove it, this approach is not going work,\u201d he said.
\nCalling the non-biodegradable shopping bags and materials a major cause of environmental and agricultural pollution, he urged masses to pack and dump the waste at designated places.
\nThe company will launch an awareness drive in the union council to persuade the community to play a role in ensuring cleanliness.
\nIsmail said the awareness drive would be launched to sensitize masses about waste picking timings and their responsibilities in keeping their localities clean.
\nZonal Manager, Tariq Aziz said the company would start clearing has launched full-fledged operation and asked locals for their support.
\nKeeping in view the performance of the WSSP, the KP government has extended its services to 23 more union councils.
\nThe company is already providing sanitation and water supply services in 43 urban union councils. Now it will also operate in rural and semi-rural areas of Peshawar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
