EDINBURGH, Scotland
\nKyle Coetzer has stepped down as the captain of Scotland. The 38-year-old had announced his decision prior to the side\u2019s ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 fixture against the UAE On Friday (June 3).
\nScotland\u2019s new captain will be appointed before the series against Namibia and Nepal in July, Cricket Scotland said.
\nCoetzer said that he has \u201cno desire to stop playing\u201d and will continue to don the national colours under a new leader in the time to follow.
\nHe led Scotland in 110 games, including in the Super 12 games in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, and is the side\u2019s third most capped player in history.
\n\u201cI have thought long and hard about my decision to step down as captain of the Scotland men\u2019s side and have decided this test against the UAE will be my last at the helm,\u201d Coetzer said in a statement.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s been an absolute pleasure to lead this group through various stages in our growth and development and captain my country and I will look back on the time with such fondness. I\u2019m extremely proud of where we have got to and I\u2019m even more excited with where this team can go under its next leader.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s been fantastic to see how the players are managing themselves on the field recently and to effectively have more than one leader out there has been a really positive and encouraging sign for me.
