\nKarachi police on Sunday recovered \u201cmissing girl\u201d Dua Zehra in a police action in Bahawalnagar. Police also arrested Dua Zehra\u2019s husband and took the couple in their protective custody.
\nAccording to SSP Zubair Sheikh, the husband and wife were recovered from Chishtian in Bahawalnagar after conducting several raids. He further said that the police also arrested a \u2018facilitator\u2019 during the raid and handed him over to the Lahore police.
\nThe anti-violent crime cell of Karachi police with the help of Punjab police conducted the raid. Mr Sheikh informed that police launched raids in all provinces of Pakistan including Kashmir and collected data of hundreds of people and recovered the girl after short-listing these people.
\nDua and her husband Zaheer would be presented before the court in Karachi tomorrow, the SSP said adding that the couple was not using their mobile phones in order to hide their location.
\nMr Sheikh said that the couple would possibly be shifted to Karachi later today. He said the court would decide with whom Dua would stay. While hearing the case on Friday, the Sindh High Court ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to trace the whereabouts of Dua Zehra, the girl from Karachi who had married the boy of her choice in Punjab.
\nThe court also ordered the FIA to take measures to prevent the girl from going abroad, besides ordering the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to block the national identity cards (NICs) of all suspects in the case thus freezing their bank accounts.
\nThe SHC directed the FIA Director General (DG) to conduct surveillance of the country\u2019s borders. On May 31, the Lahore High Court (LHC) too rejected the application filed by the mother and brother of the husband of Dua Zehra against police harassment and ordered the police to produce the girl in the court.
\nThe judge inquired from the petitioner\u2019s counsel as to why his clients did not produce the girl before the court. \u201cEvery time, police start inquiry in the case, you file a petition in the court. The truth of the matter is that you have made a mockery of the courts,\u201d he remarked.
\nThe lawyer prayed to the court to order the Punjab police to provide protection to the couple as well as their relatives. \u201cIf that happens, we will produce Dua in the court,\u201d he assured. The judge replied that meant that he and his clients knew fully well where the girl was.
\n\u201cWhy should we order the police to provide protection to the newlyweds?\u201d he questioned. The lawyer then changed his statement and said he had no idea where the girl was. When the judge asked him to produce Dua in the court tomorrow (Wednesday, June 1, 2022), he replied that the girl did not want to go to Sindh because she feared for her life.
\nDua\u2019s father registered a case of the kidnapping of his daughter and also filed a petition in the court requesting it to void the Nikah of his daughter conducted on April 17 as his daughter was a minor, even below 14 years of age at the time of her marriage. He pleaded that underage marriage was a crime under the Child Marriage Act, 2013.
\nThe police officials said that after reaching Karachi, Dua would be presented before the city court, and then she would be taken to the Sindh High Court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
