\nMarkaz-e-Tanzeem Tajiran Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chapter president Malik Mehar Ellahi on Saturday slammed the central government for providing no relief to business community, saying the budget discouraged traders across the country.
\nHe made these remarks during a meeting with the office bearers of Crime and Terrorism Journalists Forum (CTJF).
\nMalik Mehar Ellahi said that there were reports that the provincial government has decided to revive the excise (Choongi) system across the province, adding that trader bodies would strongly resist the move as it would negatively impact their business.
\nKhalid Farooq Malik, President, Peshawar Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry, KM Akbar Sethi, General Secretary, Azmat Gul, President, CTJF attended the meeting.
\nBriefing reporters, Malik Mehr Elahi said that restoration of the (Choongi ) or levy system in the province would create more hurdles for people associated with different business.
\nHe accused the officials of the Auqaf department for harassing traders in Peshawar. The department harassing the owners of different shops and threatening them, he added, the provincial government should take stern action against those who threatening business community.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Khalid Farooq Malik, President, Peshawar Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry, said that robbery and extortion cases in the provincial capital have increased manifold.
\nHe said the provincial government should take pragmatic steps for proving security to traders in Peshawar.
\nCTJF President Azmat Gul said that journalist community has always played key role in raising the voice of oppressed.
