\nThe Election Commission of Pakistan in a meeting on Thursday decided the name of Prof. Hassan Askari as the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, ARY News reported.
\nAfter failure of the opposition and the government to strike a consensus over the name for the caretaker chief minister of Punjab, the election commission decided the name of Hassan Askari as interim chief minister of the province.
\nThe election body nominated Askari to lead the caretaker setup in the province after the government and opposition members failed to reach over a consensus on the matter.
\nThe election commission selected the name of Hassan Askari from the four names proposed by the government and the opposition.
\nAfter withdrawing the name of former bureaucrat Nasir Mahmood Khosa for caretaker chief minister of Punjab, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has proposed two new names for the slot.
\nThe parliamentary panel comprises of the equal number of members from the government and opposition failed to decide the name of the interim chief minister, consequently the matter reached to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
\nA committee of the commission headed by the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Raza nominated Prof. Hassan Askari as the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab with a consensus in a meeting today.
\nAn official of the ECP while responding to a question about the caretaker setup in Balochistan, said that the commission will announce the name of the interim chief minister of the province tomorrow (Friday).
\nProf. Hassan Askari Rizvi
\nHassan Askari Rizvi is a political scientist who wrote over civil-military relations in Pakistan and is noted for his work in comparative politics, nuclear weapons, and the country\u2019s domestic policy.
\nHe is professor emeritus of political science at the Punjab University, Lahore as well as a media personality regularly appearing in various television channels to comment on country\u2019s politics and current affairs.
\nECP names Allauddin Marri as Balochistan caretaker CM
\nThe Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday named Allauddin Marri as caretaker chief minister of Balochistan.
\nThe decision was taken with consensus at a meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza in Islamabad.
\nAddressing a press conference outside the ECP office, ECP\u2019s additional secretary Dr Akhtar Nazeer said that the provincial government and the opposition had sent four names for deliberation.
\nBorn in 1980 in Mastung, Marri got a degree in engineering from Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology in Khuzdar. But, he started his own business after completing the study.
\nWith no political affiliation, he had submitted nomination papers for recent Senate elections but did not take part in it.
\nThe matter was referred to the election body as a meeting of the parliamentary committee to decide the name bore no fruit after members of the government boycotted the session, saying the names proposed by the opposition are controversial.
\nThe former government had suggested the names of Sardar Shoukat Popalzai and Allauddin Marri for the interim provincial chief executive while the former opposition had pitched the names of Mohammad Aslam Bhutani and Ashraf Jahangir Qazi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
