Mercedes driver says he still \u2018feels fresh\u2019 after reaching 300-race milestone at French Grand Prix

\nLewis Hamilton said he had \u201cplenty of fuel left in the tank\u201d after his 300th race in Formula One on Sunday.
\nOnly the sixth driver to reach the milestone, the 37-year-old Briton was asked after finishing second at the French Grand Prix at Le Castellet whether he might extend his contract with Mercedes and go for 400.
\n\u201cThat\u2019s a lot of races,\u201d replied the seven-time world champion. \u201cI firstly just want to be grateful to get to this point. But I still feel fresh and still feel like I\u2019ve got plenty of fuel left in the tank. I\u2019m enjoying what I\u2019m doing.\u201d
\nHamilton is Formula One\u2019s most successful driver of all time, with 103 wins and the same number of pole positions among a raft of records. A prominent and outspoken campaigner for equal rights and diversity, he made clear he was still having fun despite his team\u2019s current problems.
\nMercedes, constructors\u2019 champions for the past eight years, have yet to win a race in 2022.
\n\u201cWe\u2019ve got some great people leading the sport and having great conversations about the direction we\u2019re going as a sport, so I\u2019m enjoying it more than ever,\u201d said Hamilton.
\n\u201cOf course I want to get back to winning ways and that\u2019s going to take time, but I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll sit down at some stage and talk about the future. But again, just with our team, I always want to continue to be building,\u201d he added.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s one thing having races, but it\u2019s also continuing the work that we do outside and doing more… and we will.\u201d
\nHamilton had played down the significance of 300 races before the weekend but he recognised it meant more than he realised. \u201cThis morning I woke up just feeling incredibly grateful, just thinking about all the people that have been with me along the way,\u201d he said.
