\nThe Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq has said that all necessary facilities are being provided to disabled persons in KMU as per the guidelines and instructions of the World Health Organization and Higher Education Commission Islamabad. In addition to the admissions of disabled students to the university, quotas have also been allotted in light of government policies.
\nHe expressed these views on the occasion of a meeting with the representative delegation of Pakistan Ever Bright Development Organization (PEDO) which met him under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Shahab ud din, while on this occasion PEDO\u2019s Legal Advisor Mohammad Riaz Advocate, Dr. Irfan Ullah Khattak and relevant officials of KMU were also present.
\nAddressing the meeting, Professor Dr. Zia ul Haq said that in KMU, seven seats are reserved for disabled students in MBBS and BDS, while a two percent quota is reserved for allied health sciences.
\nHe said that in the light of government directives, seats have been reserved for disabled persons in jobs as well. He said that disabled students and employees in KMU are encouraged at all levels and all the necessary facilities are being provided for them according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization and the Higher Education Commission.
\nProf. Dr. Zia ul Haq said that ramps have been constructed at various places to facilitate the access of disabled persons in KMU, while lift facilities have also been provided in the academic block.
\nHe assured the PEDO delegation that the welfare of persons with disabilities is a core part of our policy and that all necessary steps in this regard will be taken on a priority basis with the guidance of PEDO.
