Election Commission (EC) has restored Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Tariq Bashir Cheema as president and secretary general of PML-Q respectively. <\/p>\n
The commission while accepting the petition against the intra party election by central executive committee has issued notices to the respondents. <\/p>\n
A 4-member bench of EC presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) took up for hearing petition filed by Chaudhry Shujaat against the intra party election by PML-Q Central Executive Committee Friday. <\/p>\n
Barrister Umar Aslam appeared before the Election commission on behalf of the petitioner. <\/p>\n
CEC said during hearing a letter has been sent by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to commission in this regard. We include it in the hearing too. <\/p>\n
Barrister Umar Aslam told the commission party central executive committee met in Lahore under senator Kamil Ali Agha. Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Tariq Bashir Cheema were removed from their par ty slots in the meeting. <\/p>\n
Central Executive committee announced to hold intra party election unilaterally. Senator Kamil Ali Agha is provincial secretary of the party Punjab. No notification has been sent to election commission to remove party president. <\/p>\n
He said Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Tariq Bashir Cheema are still party office bearers. The powers of central executive committee are very clear under article 43 of the party constitution. This committee comprises 200 members. President nominates 50 members out of them. The election of members of central executive committee has not been held so far. The members who attended the meeting were not members of working committee. <\/p>\n
The party president can only be removed from his post in the event of his resignation or death. There is no clause in the constitution of the party to remove president of the party.
\nHe said central working committee has no powers to remove president. Party president can be changed only in intra party election. <\/p>\n
He said show cause notices have been sent to those members of party who attended the meeting. <\/p>\n
He said central election committee has issued schedule in connection with intra party election. There can be no two presidents of party at a time. <\/p>\n
Intra party election of the party were held in 2021. It is strange no procedure is in place to remove its president in a democratic party. Only disciplinary action can be initiated against any office bearer. <\/p>\n
