\nChief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Shahzad Khan Bangash on Thursday reviewed progress on jails reforms.
\nThe Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, Inspector General Police KP Muazzam Jah Ansari , Home Department, DG Prosecution, IG Jail and other concerned officials were also present on the occasion.
\nOn this occasion, IG Jail Saadat Hassan briefed the meeting on the progress towards the prison reforms in the province.
\nJail Saadat Hassan said that due ongoing construction and expansion activities in various prisons, the capacity of prisoners increased by 4672.
\nHe said that the provincial supervisory committee, constituted for the reforms, have held five meetings, adding, subsequently, the provincial and district supervisory committees have made 16 and 96 visits to different jails respectively.
\nThe meeting was briefed that so far more than 3522 prisoners have been given formal education, 1743 were given religious education.
\nHe said that 825 prisoners have been given vocational training and1809 prisoners were given free legal aid.
\nYoung children and women are being kept separately from other prisoners and special rooms have been allocated for transgender in the seven jails of the province, it added.
\nCS-KP and other high-ups were informed that a Prison Management Information System has been implemented in 14 prisons and efforts were underway to extend it to all jails of the province.
\nFederal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi on this occasion expressed his satisfaction over the progress made under the reform agenda.
\nHe said that the efforts and reforms agenda in the province should be continued to provide a better environment for the prisoners in the province.
\nCS-KP Dr Shehzad Bangash Reforms in prisons were among the priorities of the provincial government.
\nMr Bangash said that prisoners were given free education and vocational training to make them useful citizens.
