\n10 die, over 100 injured as roof of mosque in Khairpur collapses | Rain-related death tally tops 29 | Balochistan still cut off

\nSindh and Balochistan are facing a large-scale devastation as a heavy rainy spell has spread a trail of destruction and as many as 29 people died in the rain-related incidents across the country on Monday.
\nThe roof of a mosque in Khairpur collapsed due to torrential rain killing more than 10 people and injuring over 100 others present at the holy place. It\u2019s very tragic that the people got shelter in the mosque from the ravaging rains and flash floods that hit the area.
\nSindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah while talking to media from Jilani House in Khairpur said that extraordinary rains had broken all previous records. He declared Khairpur a calamity-hit area adding that the Sindh government would let off the area people from paying taxes. The chief minister announced Rs25,000 compensation each for the affected families. He said that the provincial government would also provide other facilities to rain affectees.
\nFour people died when the roof their house caved in in Kandhra area of Sukkur. The city and its suburban areas have been receiving intermittent downpour for the entire week and continuous sleet for the last 48 hours. As many as 8 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents during last three days.
\nIn a suburban village of Pir Ismail Shah in Larkana, two sisters Abida (25) and Seema (20) buried alive in a roof collapse incident. The roof of their house came crushing down on them after a heavy rain pounded the area. Three other inmates of the house including Munawwar Bibi (30), Mehmooda (23) and a child Sohail Deetho sustained injuries. The neighbours removed the debris and pulled out the trappers underneath. The dead bodies and injured persons were shifted to Chandka Hospital.
\nIn a roof collapse incident in village Jonghal Pehor in Thal, three small siblings died. The deceased children included Ataur Rehman (7), Sharifan (8), and Rashid Pehor (5).
\nTehsil Meharr of Dadu has been lashed with torrential rains for the last 72 hours. The roof of a house in Butt Sarai village caved in due to incessant rain. As a result, a woman and two girls died and two other children got hurt under the fallen debris. They were shifted to Larkana Hospital.
\nIn Larkana Naudero, a man was buried alive when the roof of his house fell down. The tally of roof-collapse deaths has reached 21 in the area. In Qambar, three people including a woman died when the roof of their house fell down.
\nIn district Bajour, two children lost their lives when the roof of their house collapsed in Kamangara area of tehsil Nawagai. The torrential rains have wreaked havoc in tehsil Landi Kotal in district Khyber.
\nIn a roof collapse incident in Sadu Khel area of Landi Kotal, a child was killed and two other people including a woman sustained injuries. In Kot Mithan area, the flash flood have created havoc in Qasba Wing Bukhari Sharif. The people have started vacating the area while complaining that the government is not providing rescue efforts in the area.
\n They said that their houses and fields have been submerged in 6-foot water. In Dera Ghazi Khan, the interprovincial highway Quetta Road Rakhi Gaj which connects Balochistan with Punjab is still closed for the fifth straight day. Thousands of passengers who intend to travel to Punjab from Balochistan have been stranded there. The highway is blocked as boulders and other debris littered the road following a land sliding in the area. Hundreds of villages in Fazil Pur were inundated by the flash floods of Ruid Koi. Now the gushing waters after creating a breach in Seem Nullah in Aqil Pur are heading towards Rajanpur city.
\nAccording to Metrological Office, heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Malakand, Buner, Mohmand, Kurram and Khyber on 21st and 22nd August.
\nFlash flooding is expected in Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, Barkhan, Kohlu, Musa Khel, Sherani, Sibbi, Bolan, hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Dir, Karak and Lakki Marwat on 21st and 22nd August.
\nRainfall may trigger landslides in Kashmir, hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat, Murree, Chillas, Diamir, Gilgit, Hunza, Astore, Ghizer and Skardu during the forecast period. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
