156 schools damaged in flood-hit districts, 9,411 cattle perished by flash floods
\nPESHAWAR
\nProvincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Wednesday that torrential rains and devastated flash floods have wreaked havoc across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and killed more than 262 people, including 36 women and 106 children.
\nAccording to data shared by PDMA stated that from June 15 to August 29 KP experienced an unprecedented climate induced disaster in the form of heavy rains and flash floods.
\nIt shared that during the last 75 days, floods and torrential rains damaged around156 schools and educational institutions in different districts of the province.
\nAccording to PDMA during the same period of time more than 9,411 cattle were also killed in the province.
\nDera Ismail Khan, Swat, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and Kohistan were the worst hit districts of the province during the flash floods, it stated.
\nIn these districts not only human losses were reported on a large scale but a major portion of houses and crops also sustained severe damages and mostly orchards perished during the floods.
\nIn a statement issued by the Director General PDMA Sharif Hussain said the provincial government has so far released funds worth Rs850 million to concerned district administration for relief and rehabilitation activities.
\nHe shared that PDMA has dispatched 8650 tents, 6850 tarpaulin sheets, 2800 blankets and 2500 plastic mats, 8550 mattresses, 2550 kitchen sets and 2000 hygiene kits, 41 dewatering pumps to most affected districts of the province.
\n\u201cAs soon as the current emergency situation ends, the provincial government would initiate the process of compensation across the province,\u201d he added
\nDG-PDMA added that at present the authority has established around 159 relief camps in different flood-hit districts of KP, adding that 77 camps have been established in Nowshera district, 11 in DI Khan division,17 in Charsadda and seven camps have been established in Dir Upper.
\nMr Sharif claimed that the district administration carried out relief operations in the flood-affected districts and the provincial government was using all facilities to provide relief to the affected people residing in these camps.
