\nProvincial Health Services Academy (PHSA) Peshawar Senior doctors of BPS 19 under training management cadre of the health department visited Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar.
\nThe visit was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Khalil Akhtar, Director Admin and Training PHSA, Dr. Zahid Ashraf, Director PHSA, and Dr. Niaz Muhammad Afridi, Director PHSA. The purpose of the visit was to provide essential information about the background, objectives, and performance of KMU to senior management cadre doctors of the province.
\nThese senior doctors under training were briefed by University Registrar Professor Dr. Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, Director Public Health Reference Lab Dr. Yasir Yousafzai, Director IPH Dr. Saima Afaq, Additional Registrar Nasir Saleem Arab, Director of Family Medicine Dr. Jawad Ahmed, and Dr. Asif Ali about KMU\u2019s vision, mission, goals, various departments and their performance, in which the participants expressed special interest.
\nLater on, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq while addressing the participants of the course said that the management cadre is the backbone of the health system. He said that the KMU was the brainchild of the Health Department and the progress it has made in the last fifteen years is exemplary.
\nThe aim of the medical university is to play a leadership role in addressing the health challenges facing society. We can successfully fight the health problems by strengthening the public health system, he added.
\nProfessor Dr. Zia ul Haq said that the mandate of PHSA and KMU is quite similar. However, the focus of PHSA is mostly on in-service and pre-service training, while KMU has a special focus on education and training from an undergraduate level to a Ph.D. level, apart from research. He said that both institutions can achieve common goals through joint initiatives, for which there is a need for close relationships and links between these two institutions.
\nProf. Dr. Zia ul Haq said that instead of focusing only on clinical sciences in KMU, under an all-round and comprehensive approach, we prioritize clinical sciences, basic medical sciences, public health, physiotherapy, nursing, and allied health sciences and education and training from BS level up to Ph.D. is being provided.
\nHe said that more than 1.7 million tests of Corona have been done in the Public Health Reference Lab so far and this process is still going on. He said that KMU is not only focusing on knowledge and research but is also focusing on the direct provision of medical services to the people through PHRL and mass vaccination.
\nVice Chancellor Professor Dr. Zia ul Haq in response to a question said that the MBBS and BDS syllabus has been extensively reformed to suit the modern requirements. He said that KMU has successfully implemented the modular system, the encouraging results of which will begin to emerge soon in the form of producing the best medical graduates.
