\nPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sarurday said there would not have been so much damage if dams had been built.
\nSpeaking to the media after receiving a briefing on the flood situation in Rojhan, the former PM stated that the flood has caused destruction throughout the country, adding that the PDMA should collect data on damage to aid in rehabilitation efforts.
\n\u201cPDMA should now actively play its role to assess the losses of infrastructure and harvest so that proper rehabilitation could be carried out keeping in view the data,\u201d he said.
\nImran Khan asked the PTI lawmakers to stay among the flood affectees in their respective areas so that their needs could be catered on immediate basis. \u201cI know the people in flood-hit areas are in distress but once these areas are de-watered, it will increase harvest in their area,\u201d Khan said.
\nThe PTI chairman further said that thousands of acres of land have been submerged due to floods. He will discuss the issue of further assistance to the victims.
\n\u201cWe should help the flood victims, the members of the provincial and national assemblies, the government, and me,\u201d Imran Khan said.
\nIn the future, we want to build two dams. \u201cIf the dams were built, people would not have been harmed for two or three years, even when there was a flood,\u201d he added.
\nEarlier, Imran Khan reviewed the relief activities in the area. He also interacted with the flood victims and inquired about their problems. He also took an aerial view of the flood affected areas.
\nRajanpur Deputy Commissioner Arif Rahim briefed about the steps taken for rehabilitation of the flood victims.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, he said that the flood had caused a huge destruction in the area. \u201cThe rehabilitation work will be easy after collecting the complete data about the losses due to floods,\u201d he added.
\nOn his arrival at Rajanpur, Imran Khan was welcomed by former chief minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, Sardar Nasrullah Dareshak, Punjab Minister for Finance Mohsin Leghari, Punjab Minister for Food Hasnain Bahadur Dareshak, MPAs Awais Khan Dareshak, Farooq Amanullah Dareshak, Ali Ahmed Dareshak and Meena Jaffar Leghari.
\nMeanwhile, addressing a lawyers convention in Bahawalpur, Imran Khan while declaring to bring a \u201crevolution of justice\u201d, the former prime minister said he needed help of the lawyers community to take down all the mafias imposed on the country.
\n\u201cWho protects democracy? The lawyers,\u201d he emphasized. \u201cThe only reason we have been sent to this world is to dispense justice,\u201d Highlighting the responsibility of the lawyers in a democracy, Imran cited how Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah also belonged to the same profession.
\n\u201cLand mafia has become the biggest mafia in the country,\u201d he added, saying that thieves have taken over the country.
\nThe ex-premier cited how the jungle is ruled by the strongest and mightiest but an Islamic society is one where the weak are protected.
