Federal Minister for Water Resources Khursheed Shah on Monday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan\u2019s arrest would not solve anything. The minister was speaking to the media after visiting flood-ravaged areas of Sindh on Monday.<\/p>\n
Asked about his opinion on the issues surrounding the former prime minister, Shah said that Imran\u2019s politics was beyond his understanding. \u201cWhenever he is let go, he goes on a tirade against the United Nations secretary general or other world leaders,\u201d he said, with bewilderment writ large on his face.<\/p>\n
Shah also refuted rumors that backdoor communications with the PTI chief are underway. The federal minister insisted that he believes in direct communication. To a question regarding elections, the minister dismissed the possibility of elections being held anytime soon. \u201cThose [polls] which had to be conducted were postponed as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier in the day, Khursheed Shah visited his native town of Sukkur to review relief and rehabilitation work by local authorities. Speaking on the occasion, he lamented that 70% of Sindh and 30% of Balochistan had been destroyed by the recent floods. He blamed climate change for the catastrophe.<\/p>\n
\u201cPakistan has suffered the most amount of destruction due to climate change in the world,\u201d he maintained. The federal minister also highlighted the visit of the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and said it helped raise global awareness regarding the destruction caused by monsoon floods in the country.<\/p>\n
Pakistan should talk about climate change with international organizations to ensure expedited mitigation activities in curbing global warming, he said. On the rising number of health issues triggered by floods, Shah said the government has set up several medical camps in the flood-hit regions.<\/p>\n
He lamented that 80% of the people in the desert area of Saleh Pat are sick (owing to poor weather and floods). The minister also noticed a spike in the number of malaria cases and asked people to practice caution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
