\nChief Justice (CJ) Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah has said it is our tragedy that the state has failed in discharging its obligations.
\n\u201cHalf of our life passed in dictatorship. We have repeatedly said in our decisions that there is no rule of law. We have mentioned in the decisions that law is only for elite. It is responsibility of political leadership that it should not bring their disputes in the courts and fortify the parliament\u201d, he said this while addressing a full court reference held in his honor by IHC here Monday.
\nHe held it is also binding on judiciary to keep in view the norms of distribution of powers. We have taken the oath for protection of the constitution. There can be supremacy of the constitution only when mindset changes. The political leadership can strengthen the supremacy of the constitution.
\nThe accountability of our institution is with public scrutiny, he added.
\nThe people should have trust on judiciary, he remarked. We have a specific role. We can only give decision.
\nI don\u2019t want to take any credit, he said adding there was nothing possible without colleague judges and dynamic bar.
\nIHC is not like other high courts, he remarked. It has a separate status. This is not court of one area. It represents federation.
\nWhat incident has been talked of with reference to lawyers, the law will take its course therein, he observed.
\nIHC reports have proved them professional reporters, he underlined.
\nSpeaking on the occasion in honor of CJ IHC Athar Minallah, the designated CJ IHC Aamir Farooq said CJ Athar Minallah has played vital role in lawyers movement.
