\nIn efforts to cut down carbon emission and improve air quality, the commissioner Peshawar Riaz Khan Mehsud on Tuesday issued instructions to initiate pragmatic measures for converting all the brick kilns present in the district to zigzag technology.
\nThe technology has been known to reduce power consumption and cut down carbon emissions hence improving the air quality.
\nThe decision was taken in a meeting which was chaired by Riaz Khan Mehsud and attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shafiullah Khan, officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Imran Yousafzai, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Hashim Rao and other relevant officers.
\nThe forum was informed that so far only two units of brick kilns in the province have been shifted to modern and eco-friendly It added that in Punjab more than 7ooo brick kilns units have been shifted to eco-friendly zig-zag technology while in KP only two units currently operating on the above-mentioned modern technology.
\nIt shared that almost all owners of the brick kilns still stuck with the traditional method and continuously used charcoal, wood, rubber and plastic for burning fire due to which dangerous toxic fumes are emitted from and causing severe damages to the environment especially increasing pollution in the air.
\nRiaz Khan Mehsud directed the forum to hold special meetings with relevant stockholders and brick owners for converting their units to the modern zigzag technology.
\nHe said that the brick kiln owners should be taken on board for implementing the orders in letter and spirit.
\nMr Mehsud said that immediate practical steps should be taken and it should be ensured that the transition of kilns to zigzag technology is started by December.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
