US State Dept spokesperson says they are \u2018deeply committed\u2019 to a democratic and peaceful Pakistan

\nThe United States reiterated its condemnation of the assassination attempt on former premier Imran Khan and stated that violence had \u2018no place\u2019 in politics. Commenting on the Wazirabad attack, US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price maintained that the country continued \u201cto strongly condemn the shooting of Imran Khan\u201d.
\nReferring to an earlier statement by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Price stated that \u201cviolence has no place in politics\u201d and that the US was \u201cconcerned about these reports of violence\u201d.
\n\u201cWe call on all parties to refrain from violence, harassment, intimidation, and to respect the rule of law,\u201d the spokesperson added.
\nHe furthered that the US was \u201cdeeply committed to a democratic and peaceful Pakistan\u201d and stood \u201cwith the people of Pakistan\u201d.
\nPrice also restated the concern about \u201cwhat has happened in Pakistan in recent days\u201d, adding that political parties should \u201cnever\u201d resort to violence.
\n\u201cThey should express their disagreements peacefully, using \u2013 employing universal rights \u2013 freedom of expression, freedom of assembly \u2013 but violence is never the answer,\u201d Price said when asked about the \u201ccurrent political chaos\u201d in Pakistan. He offered condolences to the family of the individual who was killed and hoped for a \u201cquick and thorough recovery of all who were injured, including Imran Khan\u201d.
\nResponding to a question on press freedom, Price maintained that the US \u201croutinely\u201d raised concerns about press freedom with all stakeholders around the world.
\n\u201cWe do that as a matter of course in Pakistan. We\u2019ll continue to have those conversations with Pakistani authorities,\u201d he said.
\nThe spokesperson added that a \u201cfree press\u201d and an \u201cinformed citizenry\u201d were key for \u201cany nation and its democratic future\u201d.
\nA day after the PTI chief survived an assassination attempt, the US condemned the shooting and urged \u201call parties to remain peaceful and refrain from violence\u201d.
