\nThe elementary and secondary education department on Thursday failed to satisfy the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Standing Committee on the performance of the Education Monitoring Authority (EMA) in Newly Merged Areas (NMAs).
\nThe monitoring authority in a report submitted to the committee failed to disclose accurate official data about the schools in ex-Fata where construction work had been completed during 2013-18.
\nThe details furnished before the committee by the EMA stated that the provincial education department had completed work on 2805 needed base schools whereas work on more than 751 schools was still underway and yet to be completed.
\nThe authority concealed actual figures of schools to be set up in the merged areas, said a handout.
\nPakhtun Yar Khan, chairman of the committee, told the officials of the education department to submit complete details as to how many schools completed so far in the NMAs and those schools where works are still in progress.
\nBesides, chairman, members of the committee including MPAs Naseerullah Khan, Faheem Ahmed, Mir kalam, Mian Nisar Gul, Sardar Hussain Babak, Shagufta Malik, Abdul Salam Afridi, Sahibzada Sanaullah attended the meeting.
\nAdvocate General and senior officials of the education department were also present in the meeting held at KP Assembly.
\nThe committee directed the officials of the education department to set up a sub-committee under the chairmanship of MPA Naseerullah Khan to review the government schools in PK-16 constituency of Lower Dir.
\nLawmakers Bahadur Khan and Sahibzada Sanaullah were also made part of the committee.
\nThe committee will visit the concerned constituency and will submit its report in the next meeting.
\nThe standing committee meeting also discussed the questions raised by the members of the assembly.
\nThe Chairman Committee issued instructions to the provincial education department to provide full details on the questions submitted by female lawmaker Shagufta Malik and Sahibzada Sanaullah on the floor of KP Assembly.
\nThe officials of the elementary and secondary education department informed the forum that Quran has been made compulsory for the students of class 6th to 12th in public sector schools of the province from next academic session. Consideration over the induction of PST-Islamic Studies teachers is underway, officials added.
