\nMeeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior was held here at Parliament House on Monday with Senator Mohsin Aziz in Chair.
\nThe meeting commenced with deliberation on the Bill titled \u201cIslamabad Capital Territory Prohibition of Corporal Punishment Bill,2022\u201d moved by Senator WalidIqbal and Senator SadiaAbbasi.
\nSenator WalidIqbal apprised the committee that the bill aimed at banning inflicting of corporal punishment on children by declaring it as a crime. The committee unanimously passed the Bill after the detailed deliberation.
\nFurthermore, the Senate body also passed the Bill titled \u201cCriminal Law (Amendment) Bill,2021\u201d with unanimous vote. Senator Syed Sabir Shah, mover of bill, stated that the objective of the bill is to keep the prestige of National Flag and Portrait of Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and whoever deliberately defiles or puts on fire the potrait of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah should be punished strictly.
\nMoreover, the Bill titled \u201cFactories (Amendment) Bill,2022 also unanimously passed by the committee.
\nThe mover, Senator SeemeeEzdi, informed that only eight percent of country\u2019s total municipal wastewater and percent of the industrial wastewaters are treated before it is discharged into rivers. Therefore, the bill intends to make it compulsory for all factories to treat their wastewaters properly before discharging it to natural drains.
\nSimilarly, the committee also passed unanimously the Bill titled \u201cIslamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill,2022\u201d. Senator RanaMaqbool Ahmed, mover of the Bill, was of opinion that dog biting incidents are on rise in Pakistan and the owners of dogs do not take precautionary measures while taking them in public.
\nTherefore, the bill make it mandatory for owners to ensure safety of public at large and emphasize the metropolitan Corporation to make necessary arrangements for stray and mad dogs.
\nIn addition to that, the Senate committee deferred two bills titled \u201c Criminal Laws (Amendment) Bill,2022\u201d and \u201cProvincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill,2022\u201d for detailed deliberation till next meeting.
\nHowever, as to matters regarding the murder of renowned journalist Arshad Sharif, cases of money laundering against Prime Minister Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, arrest of Senator Muhammad Azam Swati and public petition relating to CDA notice to occupant Barrister Usman Swati. Senator AzamNazeerTarar categorically stated that these matters are subjudice and the committee should not comment on it, until or unless it is adjudicated.
\nLastly, the IG Islamabad Police Dr. Akbar Nasir submitted report before committee with respect to funds allocated for placement of containers in Islamabad, deployment of forces and number of shells fired by Islamabad Police.
\nAccording to report, it has been revealed that federal government approved Rs.399,281,000 for the said purpose and a total of Rs. 256,360,750 incurred on it. Moreover, a total of 13800 personnels including ICT Police, Sindh Police and Pak rangers were deployed during protest and 2442 shells were fired.
