\nToday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) and Ms. Zeenat Bibi MPA and Member of KPCSW has jointly organized an event titled with \u201cCommunity Women for Economic Empowerment and Elimination of Child Marriages,\u201d in collaboration with Cowater International in District Sawabi. The event was organized in observance of 16 Days of Activism to end gender-based violence against women & Girls.
\nThe event was attended by more than 250 Women belong to different segments of the society.
\nDr. Riffat Sardar the Chairperson KPCSW formally welcomed all the Guests of the seminar and said, that act as a leader in your community and say no to violence\/harmful practices by showcasing solidarity against it. She further said further that \u2018Gender-Based Violence is not a domestic issue; it is a societal issue and therefore must be brought into the public domain for discussion.\u2019
\n The Government is committed to empower Women by establishing the various departments, autonomous bodies and institutions for the women development and legislate Pro-women Laws to eradicate violence against women and Girls.
\nMs. Zeenat Bibi, MPA and Board of KP Commission said on the occasion, \u201cThe rights of women and children are fundamental human rights protected by our Constitution. Gender-based and child violence, in all its different forms, devalues human dignity and the self-worth of the abused person and must be stopped in our society.
\nMs. Chand Bibi, Advocacy officer KPCSW said that Women and girls need basic computer education and internet access to escape poverty, Violation against Women and Girls, rise above gender discrimination, and succeed in today\u2019s increasingly digital and global workforce. Girls\u2019 education strengthens economies and reduces inequality and Violation against women.
\nMs. Zuhra Luqman, the Program Manager Co-water International said in her speech that 16 Days of Activism is a global campaign where people around the world unite to raise awareness about gender-based violence, challenge discriminatory attitudes and call for improved laws and services to end violence against women for good.
\nMs. Lubna Nasir, the Social Activist said that the Child marriage is a serious social problem in itself but it can also exacerbate the prevalence of domestic violence and undermine the empowerment of women. She also highlighted the symptoms and precautions of Breast Cancer.
\nMs. Irum Nawab, Instructor Police training School Sawabi addressed the audience and said that the police department is committed to take every step to end violence against women.
\nThe government making the police stations more women-friendly and establish shelter separate desk services for women facing domestic violence. The survivors of the rural areas may inform the police station through phone call.
