\nThe 4th two-day International Conference on \u201cSustainable Energy Technologies\u201d concluded here at the US Pak Center for Advanced Studies in Energy USPCAS-E UET Peshawar, the other day. Speakers stressed that despite enormous potential of hydropower in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the main barrier in developing the micro and small hydro projects is the lack of technical expertise of international standards to manufacture hydro turbines in Pakistan.
\nProf. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. He stressed that the government must develop energy policies to tap the hydro and solar potential of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
\n\u201cWe look forward for an inclusive policy and Technology development in close collaboration with USPCAS-E and work jointly for sustainable development in the renewable energy sector of Pakistan\u201d, he added. He appreciated the USPCAS-E for holding a successful event especially Conference Secretary, Dr. Khurshid Ahamd, Co-Secretary, Dr. Kamran Shereen and Dr. Adnan Daud Khan, Director USPCAS-E for steering the conference towards a successful conclusion.
\nProf. Dr. Sahar Noor, Dean, Faculty of Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial Engineering and USPCAS-E presented conference recommendations that Pakistan is blessed with renewable energy resources: with enormous solar potential in its plains and deserts as well as excellent hydro potential in northern hilly terrains but due to lack of technology and trained human resource, we are far behind in harnessing real potential.
\nHe quoted, Prof. Dr. Clark A Miller Professor Arizona State University, USA, that there is a dire need to raise awareness in Pakistan among stakeholders including policy makers and public on energy issues and solutions.
\nAs many as fifty research papers were presented in six technical sessions including Renewable Energy Technologies, Electrical Energy Systems, Thermal Energy Systems, Energy Materials, Energy, Environment and Policy and Power System Technologies.
