\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday inaugurated the first satellite remote-sensing laboratory at the Crop Reporting Services (CRS) functioning in the directorate agriculture extension office.
\nSecretary Agriculture and Livestock Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Muhammad Israr Khan inaugurated the new GIS Remote Sensing Laboratory in CRS.
\nThe Agriculture Secretary shared on the occasion that the laboratory would monitor crop, forecast and estimate the area and production of agricultural crops round the year through satellite remote sensing technology.
\nHe added that the establishment of the laboratory will improve cooperation with other institutions of the department, including provincial and federal institutions.
\n Mapping of the command area of Zam Dam and digital compilation of impact on landowners has been started by linking land records to some extent with satellite systems.
\nIt would ensure accuracy of agricultural data.
\nThis satellite based system facilitates observation of ground realities in a scientific manner.
\nThrough GIS, the area and production of various crops, vegetables, and other products would be estimated on the Union Council level.
\nAuthorities maintained that It will also help the filed staff of the agriculture department to collect acurate data of crops diseases across the province .
\nIt includes identifying the stressors caused by climate change, and quantifying and devising strategies to address challenges in agriculture sector.
