\nNajam Sethi, who is heading a panel governing the Pakistan Cricket Board\u2019s affairs till a chairman is elected, said on Thursday that the government\u2019s \u201cadvice has to be taken\u201d in cricket-related matters concerning India.
\nTalking to the media in Lahore, he answered a reporter\u2019s question that it was \u201ctoo early\u201d for him to comment about \u201cstrategic issues\u201d regarding India, sporting ties for which were strained further since the neighbour refused to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.
\nSethi said that the sports board \u201cgets guidance\u201d from the government on the final decisions on such matters.
\nHe added that the matter will be discussed in committee meetings and expressed his lack of in-depth knowledge regarding the decisions taken before his appointment and the reasons behind them.
\nIndia has also recently turned down the visas of the Pakistan blind cricket team for the ongoing T20 World Cup on \u201cpolitical grounds\u201d.
\nFuture aims
\nSethi asserted that the board\u2019s \u201cprimary aim\u201d would be to \u201ccorrect the domestic cricket structure\u201d as he felt that new cricketers were only being sourced from the Pakistan Super League tournament.
\nHe also reiterated that the PCB\u2019s constitution of 2014 would be reinstated and that a \u201cstadium is being prepared in Peshawar\u201d, promising that matches would soon take place in the city.
\nIn response to another question, the journalist opined that at the time of his resignation in 2018, he had thought that \u201cImran Khan\u2019s vision would bring betterment [to Pakistan cricket]\u201d but expressed disappointment.
