{"id":304349,"date":"2022-12-30T09:28:07","date_gmt":"2022-12-30T04:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=304349"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:28:07","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T04:28:07","slug":"ihc-seeks-agp-ecp-replies-over-islamabad-lg-polls-postponement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/ihc-seeks-agp-ecp-replies-over-islamabad-lg-polls-postponement\/","title":{"rendered":"IHC seeks AGP, ECP replies over Islamabad LG polls postponement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> ISLAMABAD<br \/>\nThe Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Attorney General for Pakistan to submit written comments in the petition filed against ECP\u2019s decision to postpone the local government elections in the federal capital.<br \/>\nThe bench also directed the ECP to furnish a realistic timeline for holding local government polls in the capital \u2014 which were scheduled to take place on December 31.<br \/>\nThe TLTP learnt that IHC Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir issued the directions while hearing the petition of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) seeking to nullify ECPs decision to postpone the local government elections.<br \/>\nAt the outset, the ECP clearly told the court that it could not hold elections on December 31 as it required as many as 60 days for the delimitation and also needed time to ensure that all the polling material is distributed.<br \/>\nThe judge then told the election commission to provide a timeline as to when it plans on holding the polls. If the court concludes tomorrow that the elections cannot be held, then it will view the timeline.<br \/>\nNot only that, but Justice Tahir also asked the election body to submit the details of the funds utilised so far for the elections as he stressed not allowing the taxpayer\u2019s money to go to waste.<br \/>\nAttorney-General for Pakistan (AGP) Ashtar Ausaf Ali \u2014 who was summoned for assisting the court with the case \u2014 advised recovering the money from the federal cabinet if the elections do not take place on the stipulated time and the printing process has to be done all over again.<br \/>\nAfter hearing arguments, the hearing was adjourned till December 30 (Friday). <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Attorney General for Pakistan to submit written comments in the petition filed against ECP\u2019s decision to postpone the local government elections in the federal capital.
