\nChief Secretary Dr Shahzad Khan Bangash said on Thursday that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken pragmatic steps to ensure the protection of human rights in line with international standards.
\nThese views were expressed by the Chief Secretary while addressing a seminar on human rights organized by the Directorate General of Law and Human Rights at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
\nAn important milestone was the adoption in 1948 under which fundamental rights were first codified according to international standards.
\nHe said that the provincial government is taking practical steps to ensure human rights according to international standards, in this regard, the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Human Rights) has also been created at the district level.
\nCS-KP maintained that there is a comprehensive system in KP to protect the rights of the people, under which several institutions such as provincial ombudsman, ombudsman for harassment of women at workplace, access to services commission, access to information commission, district level.
\nDr Shahzad Bangash on the occasion issued instructions to the Directorate General of Law and Human Rights to conduct an awareness campaign about fundamental rights across the province.
\nAddressing the seminar, Director General Law and Human Rights Dr Saad Khan said that there are nine important human rights treaties at the international level, of which Pakistan has ratified seven.
\nProvincial Ombudsperson Rukhshanda Naz, Chief Information Commissioner Farah Hamid Khan, Chairperson Commission on the Status of Women Rafat Sardar, Law Secretary Masood Ahmed and prominent social activist Qamar Naseem also addressed the seminar.
\nSpeakers emphasized that Pakistan is bound by the agreement to implement international standards of human rights with respect to women, children, persons with disabilities, minorities and other vulnerable sections of society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
