\nPakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) has started working formally the day Bill was inked by the President of Pakistan.
\nTaking up all the relevant matters and affairs PMDC started its registration Portal as a priority after making all necessary arrangements of transition from PMC to PMDC.
\nAs promised by Federal Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel, PM&DC has started issuing permanent Registration Certificates from 8th February 2023, to doctors who graduated from Pakistani Medical and Dental colleges, without the requirement of National Licensing Examination (NLE). As per previous law of PMC the local graduates had to appear and pass the NLE exam before getting their permanent registration. Previously as per PMC Law, NLE was undertaken from the doctors graduated from Pakistan\u2019s approved medical and dental colleges which was highly criticized by doctors community throughout the Country. In this regard several protests and demonstrations were held by different doctor forums and organizations at different levels and PTI Govt was appealed repeatedly to withdraw the said black law.
\nIn this regard an interactive PM&DC online portal has been launched to facilitate doctors throughout the country. On the first day 1500 registration certificates have been issued. PM&DC has also started issuing good standing certificates and renewals. PM&DC welcomes and informs all the local graduates, which are approximately more than 10,000 waiting for their permanent registration to apply online for registration. These graduates waited for quite a long time to get themselves registered but failed due to the rigid rules imposed by PMC.
\nRegistrar PM&DC Dr. Suleman Ahmed said that one of the objectives of PM&DC is to make the registration portal in a way that is seamless to use, easy to navigate and must be user-friendly.
\nHe added that PM&DC right after its promulgation ensured that the registration Portal should be accurate enough and must be able to secure storage of confidential information of doctors and to develop a system that provide a secure payment system for application fees and to develop a system for tracking and managing applications.
\nHe added, as per new Law of PM&DC Act 2022, exam for foreign graduates i.e. National Registration Examination (NRE) has been introduced for Pakistani graduates having undergraduate degrees from Foreign Institutions. Passing the said NRE shall be mandatory for obtaining a full registration. The NRE shall be substantially based on objective computer-based multiple-choice questions and a practical component.
