\n A local court in Islamabad has rejected the PTI leader Shahbaz Gill\u2019s petition seeking acquittal in a sedition case.
\nThe court has fixed Feb 27 for indictment of the PTI leader.
\nAdditional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra on Saturday announced the decision on the acquittal petition filed by Gill.
\nEarlier, the judge of Islamabad court adjourned, for a brief period, the hearing of the sedition case against Shahbaz Gill for inciting rebellion against state institutions.
\nSpecial Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi opposed the plea seeking acquittal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shahbaz Gill. Gill\u2019s counsel and special prosecutor appeared in the court.
\nThe counsel for the accused pleaded for a break in the hearing and said that Shahbaz Gill would come to the court at one o\u2019clock.
\nThe judge remarked that the acquittal plea of Shahbaz Gill was to be discussed today.
\nProsecutor Rizwan Abbasi argued that since the stage of acquittal of the main accused Shahbaz Gill had passed, his plea for acquittal was not acceptable at this stage, the prosecution had sufficient material to prove the offence against Gill.
\nAfter a break in the hearing, Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra ordered Shehbaz Gill\u2019s lawyers to present arguments on the acquittal plea and adjourned the hearing till one o\u2019clock.
\nPTI leader Shahbaz Gill on Saturday also moved the Lahore High Court for removal of his name from the exit control list (ECL).
\nPTI leader Shahbaz Gill intends to depart for United States of America.Gill, in his writ petition has made federal government, DG FIA and others as party.
\nThe petitioner argued that he was an educated person and holder of the US Green Card. He said that he was still rendering his services as a teacher at a US university. He stated that he had been in the US for a long time in connection with business and teaching. He further argued that he had affiliation with PTI and had been serving as advisor to former prime minister Imran Khan and travelled to the US many a times.
\nThe petitioner said that cases were registered against him on political grounds and he was being victimized. After registration of cases, his name was placed on the ECL. He informed the court that earlier the Islamabad High Court had ordered removal of his name from the ECL.
