\nAn important meeting held here on Wednesday with Caretaker Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Abdul Halim Khan Kasuria in the chair, reviewed the overall performance of the agriculture sector in the province.
\nThe meeting was attended by the senior officials of the department concerned.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, the caretaker Minister stressed steps to combat the challenge of the emerging food security crisis in the province.
\nHe said that sustainable utilization of water for the agriculture sector is the need of the hour, adding that a comprehensive strategy should be devised to protect the groundwater level from further decline.
\nAbdul Halim Khan Kasuria said that less developed areas should be given more attention
\nThe caretaker provincial minister expressed these views while presiding over the meeting of the Directorate of Soil and Water Conservation.
\nThe forum was informed that 34 the provincial government has established soil and Water Conservation in 34 districts of the province.
\nProtection walls and embankments are being constructed to prevent erosion of agricultural land in the province.
\nAlong with securing water resources through modern technology, several projects are underway to harness rainwater in rainfed areas and use it for irrigation.
\nOn this occasion, Abdul Halim Khan Kasuria said that it is gratifying that the department has so far brought more than 8,000 acres under cultivation.
\nHe expressed satisfaction over the measures taken to protect the underground water level from falling further and said that less developed areas should be given more attention in this regard.
\nAbdul Halim Kasuria said that protection of agricultural land and water resources in other areas including the annexed districts with modern methods will further improve food security in the province and the country and food needs can be met at the local level.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
