\nThe chairman of Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan Faruk Amil has said that the well-being of the artist community, musicians, singers, performers and other creators was possible only through the enforcement of Copyright Law in the country and called for amendments in the law.
\nMr Faruk Amil claimed that IPO Pakistan was trying its level best to improve the existing Copyright Law through a consultation process with representatives of the artist community, legal fraternity, musicians.
\nHe was addressing a consultative meeting regarding amendments in the Copyright Ordinance, 1962 which was attended by the representatives of Artists, musicians, lyricists, writers, IP attorneys, Pashto Academy, Department of Fine Art University of Peshawar, KP Culture & Tourism Department, National Incubation Centre, Peshawar.
\nHe emphasized the need to preserve and protect our heritage, culture and music for the posterity.
\n\u201cIt could only be ensured by protecting the economic rights of the artists, he added and urged the stakeholders to suggest amendments for the improvement in the Copyright Ordinance, 1962 which is imminent after introduction of technological advancements, artificial intelligence and new avenues for the exploitations of the copyright works.
\nRepresentatives of the artist community and singers showed their concern over the violations of their copyright works through youtube and other social media channels.
\nThe participants of the meeting urged the Chairman IPO-Pakistan to provide one window facility to the artist community for speedy registration of their IPRs.
\nThey also requested for a fully equipped and functional IPO Regional Office in Peshawar for facilitation at the doorstep.
