\nIn a scathing attack on Thursday, Maryam Nawaz, the senior vice president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), accused a \u201ccabal of five\u201d of being behind the ongoing political and economic crises in Pakistan. The group allegedly includes sitting and former Supreme Court judges and the former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief, General (retd) Faiz Hameed.
\nAddressing a workers\u2019 convention in Sargodha, Maryam Nawaz held Gen Faiz responsible for leading the group and claimed that their actions had contributed to the country\u2019s problems. She further stated that the \u201ccabal of five\u201d had undermined the democratic process in the country and was responsible for curtailing the freedom of the press and the judiciary.
\nDuring her address, Maryam also displayed the banner containing images of former Supreme Court chief justices Saqib Nisar, Asif Saeed Khosa, and two sitting apex court judges \u2014 Justice Mazahar Ali Naqvi and Justice Ijazul Ahsan as well former ISI chief Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed.
\n\u201cHe [Gen Faiz] appointed himself as the army chief\u2026 he wanted to become army chief but Nawaz Sharif could not become his pawn so he picked Imran Khan to fulfil his objectives,\u201d she added.
\nMaryam said Gen Faiz told one the PDM leaders that \u201cNawaz Sharif needed to be cut to size\u201d.
\n\u201cWhen establishment dumped this \u2018trash\u2019 [Imran Khan] then these two judges took up the mission to bring him back to the power. They are not judges but remnants of Faiz Hameed.\u201d
\nThe PML-N senior vice president\u2019s remarks come at a time when Pakistan is grappling with multiple challenges, including a worsening economic situation, political instability, and rising inflation. The country\u2019s political landscape has been marred by allegations of corruption, political polarisation, and interference by the military establishment.
\nMaryam said Imran was just a frontman of the \u201ccabal of five\u201d as political instability caused by them triggered economic crisis leading to sky rocketing inflation in the country.
\nShe also lashed out at the PTI chief for appointing \u201cPunjab\u2019s biggest dacoit\u201d Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as his party\u2019s central president in Punjab accusing the former PML-Q leader of corruption and being the \u201chenchman of establishment\u201d.
\nThe ruling party leader also urged her uncle, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to not care about the incumbent government which she said is a \u201cleftover\u201d of previous PTI-led government and hold those accountable responsible for destroying the country\u2019s economy.
\n\u201cI am asking Shehbaz Sharif to not care about this government which is remnant of the previous government and bring them to book for destroying Pakistan,\u201d she remarked.
\nSpeaking about the PTI\u2019s \u201cJail Bharo Tehreek\u201d (fill prison movement), Maryam said Imran asking his workers to court arrests while \u201che himself is hiding in a mouse hole\u201d.
\n\u201cLeaders lead from the front like Nawaz Sharif\u2026 jails for workers and bails for himself,\u201d she remarked.
\nEarlier, while addressing the convention, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said Imran Khan will not accept results even if the elections are held within 90 days.
\n\u201cHe wants to create instability in the country and will take out long march and refuse election results on the pretext of rigging allegations,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cWe will defeat him in the elections whenever the polls are held.\u201d
\nSanaullah said only former premier and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, who has been living in self-imposed exile in London since November 2019, can lift the country out of crises.
\n\u201cMian Nawaz Sharif will return to the country very soon. The country\u2019s woes cannot be resolved without him. He is an experienced leader and will bring the country out of troubles,\u201d he added.
\n\u201cEstablishment\u2019s henchman [former president] Ghulam Ishaq Khan and later General (retd) Pervez Musharraf conspired against Nawaz when the country was progressing.\u201d
\nSanaullah said Nawaz Sharif eliminated terrorism and ended power outages from the country when he came to power in 2013. \u201cBut then again Imran Khan was imposed upon the country through a conspiracy.
