{"id":318035,"date":"2023-03-07T12:40:25","date_gmt":"2023-03-07T07:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=318035"},"modified":"2023-03-07T13:42:12","modified_gmt":"2023-03-07T08:42:12","slug":"toshakhana-case-it-seems-that-imran-wont-appear-in-court-even-today-says-judge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/toshakhana-case-it-seems-that-imran-wont-appear-in-court-even-today-says-judge\/","title":{"rendered":"Toshakhana case: It seems that Imran won\u2019t appear in court even today, says judge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal \u2014 hearing the Toshakhana case against the PTI chairman \u2014 said on Tuesday that it seemed that former prime minister Imran Khan would not appear in court today as well.<\/p>\n<p>The 70-year-old ex-premier, who has been recovering from a gunshot injury from an assassination attempt in Wazirabad last year, has thrice skipped indictment hearings in an Islamabad sessions court in the case.<\/p>\n<p>He is accused of concealing, in his assets declarations, details of the gifts he retained from the Toshakhana \u2014 a repository where presents handed to government officials from foreign officials are kept.<\/p>\n<p>Imran was set to be indicted in the Toshakhana Reference on Feb 28, but his lawyer had requested the judge that he be exempted from the hearing because he had to appear in several other courts. His indictment was deferred twice before.<\/p>\n<p>The judge had then issued arrest warrants for Imran and adjourned the hearing till March 7.<\/p>\n<p>On March 5, an Islamabad police team was sent to Lahore to arrest Imran with the court summons on Sunday. However, it returned empty-handed after the PTI chief evaded the arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, Imran had approached the court for the cancellation of the arrest warrants, arguing that the withdrawal of the summons would enable him \u201ca fair opportunity to appear and defend himself\u201d in the case.<\/p>\n<p>However, ADSJ Iqbal rejected his request on March 6 and upheld the warrant, ruling that the PTI chairman \u201cwilfully avoided\u201d appearing before the court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal \u2014 hearing the Toshakhana case against the PTI chairman \u2014 said on Tuesday that it seemed that former prime minister Imran Khan would not appear in court today as well.
