Says role of women in police would be encouraged

\nInspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Akhtar Hayat Khan has said pragmatic steps have been taken to empower women in different walks of life in the province, adding that the approval of gender equality post is an important development which would help the to protect the rights of vulnerable sections, especially children and women.
\nHe expressed these views while addressing the launching ceremony of \u201cKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Police Support Platform\u201d here on Wednesday.
\nThe provincial police chief said that half of our population consists of women who demand that they should be adequately represented in all spheres of life.
\nHe claimed that a lot of work has been done in this regard in KP but still efforts are needed for the betterment.
\nThe IGP said that the number of women police in the police department is very low and all available resources are being utilized to increase the number.
\nAkhter Hayat said that it is good news that now women are joining the police department by qualifying the competitive examinations.
\n\u201cWomen are the valuable capital of our country and women will improve the service structure of the police and increase their quota and budget in the police department as well as create an environment where not only women can perform their duties effectively,\u201d he said.
\nHe KP women police are endowed with effective policing skills and by encouraging them, their abilities will be fully utilized in the department.
\nThe IGP said that women police help desks have been established along with women police stations in the province.
\nEarlier, Rozia Altaf, Director of Women Police Support Platform, delivered a welcome speech and presented a detailed report on the aims and objectives of the platform.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
