\nForeign Office on Wednesday termed former US special envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad\u2019s statement over the country\u2019s ongoing political situation \u201can intervention to the country\u2019s internal affairs\u201d.
\nThe FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said Khalilzad\u2019s statement was misleading. \u201cPakistan does not need anyone\u2019s lecture or advice to address the ongoing challenges and she will come out stronger of the tough situation\u201d, the FO added. Earlier, Khalilzad had warned that Imran Khan\u2019s arrest would deepen the crisis being faced by Pakistan.
\nTaking to Twitter, Khalilzad pointed out that Pakistan was facing a triple crisis \u2013 political, economic and security. \u201cPakistan faces a triple crisis: political, economic, and security. Despite great potential, it is underperforming and falling far behind its archrival, India. It is time for serious soul-searching, bold thinking, and strategising,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cThe sequential cannibalising of its (Pakistan\u2019s) leaders through jailing, execution, assassination, etc is the wrong path,\u201d Khalilzad said, adding that arresting PTI chief Imran would only \u201cdeepen the crisis\u201d. He proposed \u201ctwo steps\u201d to deal with the country\u2019s challenges, the first being to set a date for general elections in early June to \u201cavert a meltdown\u201d.
