Ukraine war \u2018most striking\u2019 proof of West\u2019s push for global dominance, talks based on geopolitical realities must for peace, says Putin
\n ISTANBUL
\nRussia is ready to find a \u201cpolitical and diplomatic solution\u201d to the Ukraine issue and appreciates China\u2019s \u201cwell-balanced\u201d view on the matter, according to President Vladimir Putin.
\nMoscow welcomes Beijing\u2019s \u201creadiness to make a meaningful contribution to the settlement of the crisis,\u201d Putin said in an opinion piece published by Chinese newspaper People\u2019s Daily on Sunday, a day ahead of President Xi Jinping\u2019s high-profile visit to Moscow.
\n\u201cRussia is open to the political and diplomatic resolution of the Ukraine crisis. It was not Russia who broke off the peace talks back in April 2022,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cThe future of the peace process depends solely on the will to engage in a meaningful discussion taking into account current geopolitical realities.\u201d
\nThe conditions placed on Russia by the West show it is \u201cdetached from reality\u201d and not interested in finding a solution, he said.
\nPutin said the Ukraine war has been \u201cprovoked and is being diligently fueled by the West,\u201d labeling it the \u201cmost striking \u2026 manifestation of its desire to retain its international dominance and preserve the unipolar world order.\u201d
\n\u201cIt is crystal clear that NATO is striving for a global reach of activities and seeking to penetrate the Asia-Pacific. It is obvious that there are forces persistently working to split the common Eurasian space into a network of \u2018exclusive clubs\u2019 and military blocs that would serve to contain our countries\u2019 development and harm their interests. This won\u2019t work,\u201d he asserted.
\nRussia and China are \u201ccommitted to the principle of the indivisibility of security, which is being grossly violated by the NATO bloc,\u201d said Putin.
\n\u201cWe are deeply concerned over the irresponsible and outright dangerous actions that jeopardize nuclear security. We reject illegitimate unilateral sanctions, which must be lifted,\u201d he said.
\nHe warned that Washington\u2019s policy of \u201csimultaneously deterring Russia and China, as well as all those who do not bend to the American dictation, is getting ever more fierce and aggressive.\u201d
\n\u201cThe international security and cooperation architecture is being dismantled. Russia has been labelled an \u2018immediate threat\u2019 and China a \u2018strategic competitor,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Russia, China seek \u2018more just multipolar world order\u2019
\nOn relations between Moscow and Beijing, Putin said Xi\u2019s visit will give \u201ca new powerful impetus to our bilateral cooperation.\u201d
\nHe said their ties have always been built on \u201cmutual trust, respect for each other\u2019s sovereignty and interests,\u201d and despite changes in global politics they have maintained a \u201cfirm friendship.\u201d
\n\u201cThe Russia-China relations have reached the highest level in their history and are gaining even more strength; they surpass Cold War-time military-political alliances in their quality, with no one to constantly order and no one to constantly obey, without limitations or taboos,\u201d Putin said.
\nPriorities in relations include trade and economic partnership, he said, adding that trade in 2022 doubled to reach $185 billion and the target of $200 billion will be surpassed as early as this year, rather than 2024.
\n\u201cThe supplies of Russian oil and coal have increased significantly. Our specialists are involved in building new nuclear power units in China, while Chinese companies actively engage in LNG projects. Our industrial and agricultural cooperation is growing stronger. Together we explore outer space and develop new technologies,\u201d he said.
\nRussia and China are world powers that are \u201cliterally and figuratively building bridges \u2026 unlike some countries claiming hegemony and bringing discord to the global harmony,\u201d said Putin.
\n\u201cOur countries, together with like-minded actors, have consistently advocated the shaping of a more just multipolar world order based on international law rather than certain \u2018rules\u2019 serving the needs of the \u2018golden billion,\u2019\u201d he said.
\n\u201cRussia and China have consistently worked to create an equitable, open and inclusive regional and global security system that is not directed against third countries.
