\nA delegation of the Mother Language Movement called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Gulam Ali here at Governor House on Friday.
\nThe senior members of the movement included Hayat Roghani, Jaber Khan, Laiba Yousafzai, Ismatullah, Zubair Torwali, Gul Rehman Hamdard and Muhammad Zaman Sagar apprised the Governor about the importance of the regional and vernacular languages in promotion of culture.
\nThe delegation said that more than 25 regional languages are spoken in the province. However, most of them are dying and disappearing gradually.
\nThey informed the Governor about the role of the incumbent government to save these disappearing languages.
\nAccording to the representative of the movement there are more than 25 regional languages spoken in Pakhtunkhwa including Pashto, Hindko, Saraiki, Khowar, Kohistani, Sheena, Gujri, Torwali, Gwarbiti, Palula, Damili, Kalasha, Armadi, Vakhi, Madgalishti, Kalkoti, Oshojo, Mankaliali, Betri, Kamveri, Kataveri, Chalisu, Pahari, Srikuli, and other languages.
\nOn this occasion, the Governor KP said that vernacular and regional languages play key roles in promotion of regional culture, saying language is the identity of any nation.
\nHe said that different languages are spoken in different regions in Pakistan which have created a distinct connection among the people living in the country.
\nHaji Ghulam Ali assured the representatives of the Mother Language Movement full cooperation in preservation of the regional languages and appreciated their role in promotion of vernacular languages in the province.
\nThe delegation apprised the KP Governor that they have been working for the preservation of regional languages for the past 20 years.
\nThe members of the delegation requested the Governor to ensure preparation of syllabus and recruitment of teachers for teaching Pashto, Hindko, Saraiki, Khowar and Kohistani in educational institutions.
\nTalking to the delegation, Governor Haji Ghulam Ali said that the constitution of Pakistan recognizes the right of mother tongues and assured the delegation of his full cooperation to give their constitutional right to the mother tongues in the province.
\nHaji Ghulam Ali praised the efforts of the members associated with the mother tongue movement.
\nSeparately, a nine-member delegation of Paramedics Class-V Association also met Governor Haji Ghulam Ali.
\nThe delegation led by the Provincial Chairman Muhammad Waris informed the Governor about the issues of the paramedics at the province.
