{"id":322200,"date":"2023-03-28T00:03:20","date_gmt":"2023-03-27T19:03:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=322200"},"modified":"2023-03-28T00:03:20","modified_gmt":"2023-03-27T19:03:20","slug":"sc-to-protect-rule-of-law-asad-umar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/sc-to-protect-rule-of-law-asad-umar\/","title":{"rendered":"SC to protect rule of law: Asad Umar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>custodian of the constitution<br \/>\n ISLAMABAD<br \/>\nPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Asad Umar said on Monday the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) was the custodian of constitution, and asked \u2018who else would protect the rule of law if the apex court doesn\u2019t.\u2019 Talking to reporters outside Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday, the former federal minister said Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had allegedly violated constitution by rescheduling elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.<br \/>\nThe PTI leader talked to reporters as he arrived at Supreme Court of Pakistan to attend the hearing of a petition filed by his party, challenging rescheduling of general elections in both provinces, now set to take place on October 8, later this year.<br \/>\n\u201cWhatever the Supreme Court did was aimed at ensuring the implementation of constitution,\u201d Umar said, replying to a question by reporter.<br \/>\n\u201cSupreme Court is hearing this case [to act against] breach of constitution, not to protect any party\u2019s interest. They will not hand over Punjab government to PTI [by hearing this case] but will ensure the implementation of constitution,\u201d he added.<br \/>\nReacting to the apparent ongoing crackdown at his party\u2019s workers across country, Umar wondered the reason behind government\u2019s \u2018fear\u2019. \u201cI just don\u2019t know what they are afraid of,\u201d he
