ISLAMABAD
\nIshaq Dar on Thursday said that Pakistan didn\u2019t delay a single day in its payments. \u201cWe didn\u2019t defer a day in payments,\u201d finance minister said while speaking on the floor of the Senate.
\n \u201cAll technical discussion has been completed, an agreement nearing with the International Monetary Fund (IMF),\u201d he said. \u201cThe IMF is demanding, what was committed during the fifth and sixth review of the bailout,\u201d Dar said. \u201cThe lender wants guarantees of three billion dollars from the UAE and Saudi Arabia,\u201d finance minister told the Senate.
\nIshaq Dar said that the foreign exchange reserves are improving. \u201cWe are trying to take the reserves to 13 billion dollars level by June,\u201d finance minister said. \u201cState Bank\u2019s monetary policy has been free without any intervention from the government,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have ourselves amended the state bank law.
\nI was personally against these amendments in the law,\u201d he added. \u201cBy amending the law, State Bank has been made a state within state,\u201d finance minister said. \u201cI had opposed most of these amendments\u201d. The Ministry of Finance has now become powerless,\u201d he further said.
\n\u201cThe economy has worsened from 2018 to 2023. In my five months all payments have been made, and currency reserves have reached to 10 billion dollars,\u201d he said. \u201cThe economy was destroyed during the PTI tenure,\u201d he alleged.
