\nA year on, the historic no-trust vote remains shrouded with controversy

\nPakistan marked the first anniversary of the unceremonious ouster of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan as premier on Sunday after the present ruling coalition voted him out of office.
\nGruelling political uncertainty had ended around midnight when the daylong session of the lower house of parliament convened to vote on the no-confidence motion and culminated with the dismissal of Imran Khan, the 22nd prime minister of Pakistan, who became the first chief executive to be removed from office after losing majority in the National Assembly.
\nImran\u2019s PTI party, which governed the country for over three-and-a-half years, had been struggling to stay in power as its allies betrayed to join the opposition parties that had joined forces against the government.
\nWhile Pakistan\u2019s history has been marred with political instability, no prime minister had ever been removed from office through a no-trust motion.
\nWith the promise to \u201crebuild Pakistan\u201d the 13-party coalition, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had cheered the development on in 2021 and championed it even after its split.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)\u2019s chairperson and present Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had congratulated the whole nation and the House, \u201cas for the first time in the history of the country, a no-confidence motion has succeeded and we have made history\u201d, claiming that the \u201cselected\u201d who had proved himself to be an \u201cundemocratic burden\u201d on the country saw the end of his rule. \u201cDemocracy is the best revenge,\u201d Bilawal had said.
\nEchoing similar sentiments today, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry extended his felicitations to the nation for \u201chaving rid itself of the PTI\u2019s reign\u201d.
\n\u201cI congratulate you on attaining freedom from those who emptied the national treasury and left the nation hungry,\u201d he said, \u201cfrom those who stole the public mandate and the traitors who set up minefields in the path of the economy,\u201d he said.
\n\u201cI congratulate you on a year of freedom from the cruel predators who usurped media freedoms, from thieves of wheat, sugar, ghee, medicines, fertilisers, electricity and gas,\u201d he added.
\nIronically, however, all sins that Chaudhry accused the PTI of having committed were shouted right back at the coalition government as the ousted party termed it \u201ca year of imposed fascism\u201d instead.
\nIn a series of tweets, the PTI lamented the \u201cfailures\u201d of the current regime.
\nPTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that \u201cone year of Pakistan\u2019s worst fascist junta, the long dark night that came to end the bright (future) of Pakistan a year ago is still imposed today.\u201d
