\nShe pointed out that the Fund\u2019s projected global 2.8 percent in 2023 was \u201cthe weakest medium-term forecast in decades\u201d. The growth will remain weak, at around 3pc, over the next five years, she added.
\n\u201cUnderlying inflation remains stubbornly high, geo-economic fragmentation affects trade and capital flows, and downsides risks have increased,\u201d she warned. \u201cFighting inflation and safeguarding financial stability have become more complex with the recent banking sector pressures.\u201d
\nResponding to a question about the impact of climate change on Pakistan\u2019s economy, Ms Georgieva said in 2011 she had the opportunity to see what climate change meant for the people of Pakistan. \u201cAnd I know that (last summer\u2019s) flood is much more dramatic than the one I witnessed,\u201d she added.

\nResponding to a question about IMF-Pakistan talks for the revival of the 2109 loan package, Ms Georgieva said: \u201cWe have been working very hard with the authorities in Pakistan within the context of our current programme to make sure that Pakistan has the policy framework that makes it possible to avoid what you are talking about.\u201d
\nThe reporter who asked the question had hinted at the possibility of Pakistan\u2019s burgeoning debt becoming unsustainable. But Ms Georgieva said the purpose of the IMF-Pakistan talks was to avoid getting to a point where the country\u2019s debt may become unsustainable.
\n\u201cWe are not there yet and it\u2019s better not to get there,\u201d she said.
\nThe IMF and Pakistani officials, she said, were also discussing how to support Pakistan \u201cin terms of providing financial assurances so we can complete the programme\u201d.
