Karachi(Online): After great deliberation the Sindh government on Monday approved an extension in the special powers of the Pakistan Rangers for 90 days in the metropolitan city.
\nAccording to spokesperson of the Sindh government newly elected Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah signed the summary to extend the Rangers’ stay in Sindh for one year and an extension of 90 days in the special powers of the paramilitary force.
\nThe approved summary will now be sent to the federal Interior Ministry and federal government.
\nIn a statement issued by the CM House, Shah said he hoped the Rangers would continue to work for peace in Sindh with the same commitment.
\nHowever, the statement was ambiguous as to whether the jurisdiction of the Rangers’ powers extended to the whole province.
\nEarlier, a senior official in the Sindh government said that Shah held a meeting with the co-chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party Asif Zardari in Dubai on Sunday, at which the latter ordered the CM to notify Rangers\u2019 one-year stay in Sindh with policing powers for three months.
\nApart from discussing the Rangers\u2019 powers issue with Zardari, Shah had also sought the former president\u2019s guidance over the expansion of his cabinet to accommodate certain leaders.
\nIt is worth mentioning here that an extension in powers of rangers at this time when one two ago a Rangers official was killed and 14 others including five Rangers personnel were seriously injured in two explosions near a checkpost on Miro Khan Road in Larkana on Saturday.
\nThe bombs planted in a bicycle parked near a Rangers chekpost were detonated through remote control, police said. The injured including six Rangers personnel and nine passers-by were shifted to Chandka Medical Hospital for treatment.
\nRanger\u2019s personnel have been targeted in Karachi and other parts of Sindh in the past as well. The paramilitary force was also targeted four times in March through grenade attacks in Karachi, leaving at least three Rangers soldiers wounded.
\nSeparatist Sindhodesh Revolutionary Army claimed responsibility of attack.

\nAccording to the CM’s spokesperson, Murad Ali Shah approved the summary which called for extending Rangers’ stay for one year in Karachi and also granted them special powers for 90 days. The spokesperson also said that the CM was hopeful Rangers would continue to play a vital part in maintaining the law and order in Karachi, just as they had in the recent past.
\nThe spokesperson also stated that the Chief Minister’s recommendation will be sent to the federal government.
\nThe decision comes one day after CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah held a meeting with former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in Dubai.
