PML-N leader Javed Latif on Monday expressed his disapproval towards the ongoing negotiations between the coalition government and the PTI, saying that talks should never be held with \u201cterrorists\u201d and those who \u201cwant to destroy national institutions\u201d.<\/p>\n
The statement from the ruling party\u2019s legislator comes at a crucial time when the federal coalition and the opposition are holding a formal dialogue to break the long-time deadlock over the timing of elections in the country.<\/p>\n
Talks between the government and the PTI commenced last week on the advice of the Supreme Court. After two rounds of talks, the parties are now expected to hold the final round of negotiations tomorrow (Tuesday).<\/p>\n
However, cha\u00adnces that the dialogue will yield positive results are starting to look \u201cvery slim\u201d as PTI Chairman Imran Khan has demanded the dissolution of the National Assembly by May 14 to pave the way for a successful outcome of talks.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the government has termed Imran\u2019s ultimatum \u201cimp\u00adracticable\u201d and asked him to be more flexible for the success of this dialogue bet\u00adween the two sides.<\/p>\n
The PML-N has also warned that the PTI will be the \u201cultimate loser\u201d if the negotiations failed \u2014 the general elections may be \u201cdelayed for a year under a constitutional provision\u201d.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the ongoing dialogue in a media talk in Lahore today, Latif questioned the rationale of talks with those calling the government \u201cMir Jafer and Mir Sadiq\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think there are no negotiations [possible] and talks can never be held with terrorists. We should never hold negotiations with the beneficiaries of the global powers,\u201d alleged the PML-N leader.<\/p>\n
Latif went on to say that dialogue could never be held with a person who \u201cis spreading anarchy in the country, especially at a time when Pakistan\u2019s economy is stabilising and the country is progressing without IMF\u2019s aid\u201d.<\/p>\n
He argued that such talks would equate to putting Pakistan\u2019s security at risk. \u201cBy doing so, you will also compromise on Pakistan\u2019s growth,\u201d Latif added.<\/p>\n
The lawmaker urged \u201cindividuals in institutions\u201d to take responsibility for \u201cproducing\u201d a person like Imran and for the consequences of their actions.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf this trend continues, Pakistan\u2019s future looks bleak and uncertain,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The PML-N leader further stated that his party would not allow the forthcoming elections to take place without the participation of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.<\/p>\n
