Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq on Wednesday asked PTI Chairman Imran Khan to appear in court today after expressing his dissatisfaction over the former premier\u2019s persistent absences in various cases.<\/p>\n
Hearing Imran\u2019s interim bail plea in a case involving murder attempt charges filed by PML-N MNA Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha last year, the IHC CJ said, \u201cIf the petitioner, Imran Khan, does not appear during court timings [today], will dismiss the interim bail.\u201d<\/p>\n
The judge added that the former premier \u201chas made a joke out of the courts\u201d.<\/p>\n
On Oct 23, 2022, Ranjha had lodged a criminal complaint claiming that the shot fired by a KP policeman outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Constitution Avenue on Oct 21, 2022 was \u201can attempt on his life\u201d allegedly at the behest of Imran.<\/p>\n
The disqualification of Imran in the Toshakhana case had sparked protests in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, especially at Faizabad, resulting in the arrest of three people \u2014 a PTI lawmaker and his two police guards.<\/p>\n
The clash between the protesters and police had started outside the ECP soon after the verdict disqualifying Imran when the KP police guard of MNA Saleh Mohammad fired a gunshot.<\/p>\n
On April 18, the IHC had extended Imran\u2019s bail in eight cases \u2014 including those pertaining to violence outside the Federal Judicial Complex \u2014 till May 3.<\/p>\n
Accepting the PTI chairman\u2019s request for a bail extension and exemption from court appearance that day, Justice Farooq had made it clear then that Imran\u2019s interim bail in all the cases will be cancelled if he did not appear in court on May 3.<\/p>\n
During the hearing today, Advocate Naeem Haider Panjhuta appeared as Imran\u2019s counsel.<\/p>\n
Imran\u2019s interim bail plea in other cases will be heard by an IHC two-member bench at 2pm today. One of the cases pertains to making allegations against top officers of state institutions and inciting mutiny \u2014 in which he was granted protective bail by the Lahore High Court (LHC) on April 14 \u2014 and will be heard by a division bench.<\/p>\n
Shortly after the court proceedings, PTI Senator Shibli Faraz said in a tweet Imran \u201crespected the courts\u201d and implied that the reason for the PTI chief\u2019s absence was his leg getting \u201cinjured again\u201d during his appearance at the LHC yesterday.<\/p>\n
He wrote, \u201cImran Khan\u2019s leg got injured again yesterday at the Lahore High Court due to the jostling brought about because of the lack of security provided by the government.<\/p>\n
