\nThe Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Sunday issued a high alert after India released water into the Ravi River. A spokesman for the PDMA said that India had released 185,000 cusecs of water from Ujh Barrage into the river.
\nThe spokesman further said that last year, too, India had released 173,000 cusecs of water, one-third of which, totaling 60, 000 cusecs, had traveled to Jassar. He disclosed that around 65,000 cusecs of more water were expected to be released in the next 20 to 24 hours.
\nThe Authority urged administrations of the districts lying in the vicinity of the river to complete their preparations in order to deal with any emergency and set up relief camps at all low-lying areas. The spokesman also asked relief and rescue operation teams to keep their machinery ready.
\nThe spokesman informed that concerned departments had been directed to keep monitoring the situation at Marala Headworks at Chenab River and Jassar at Ravi River. According to the Pakistan Metrological Department flood forecast, River Kabul at Nowshera is in a low flood level on Sunday, while all the other major rivers are flowing in the state of their normal flows.
\nHigh-level flooding is expected in River Chenab and associated Nullahs of River Ravi during next 48 hours. Medium to high-level flooding is expected in River Ravi at Jassar. The water level in River Chenab is rising.
\nThe water inflow at Head Marala in Wazirabad Chenab River was recorded at 126,848 cusec while the water discharge was 111,048 cusec. Water inflow at Khanki Barrage in Chenab River Wazirabad was recorded at 73,483 cusec while water discharge was 66,437 cusec.
\nIt is pertinent mention here that more rain\/wind\/thundershower is expected in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, northeast Balochistan, and Sindh during the next 12 hours.
\nAs per the weather report, widespread wind\/thunderstorm\/rain with heavy falls at isolated places and very heavy falls at one or two places is expected over the upper catchments of Rivers Ravi and Sutlej.
\nScattered wind\/thunderstorm\/rain of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls is expected over the upper catchments of Rivers Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab, along with Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Kalat, Naseerabad, Loralai, Sibbi and Zhob Divisions.
