This increase will bring the average price of electricity from Rs29 to Rs 33 per unit.<br \/>\nAfter the inclusion of taxes, per unit price may cross Rs53 (in peak hours). It has been reported that the government recently made a commitment to the IMF to raise electricity rates by Rs8 per unit. As a result, the price of electricity was already increased by Rs4.96 a few days ago. Now, there is a proposal to further increase it by Rs3 per unit.<br \/>\nThe government will submit a working paper to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to support this price hike.<br \/>\nSources reveal that once Nepra approves the increase, a formal notification will be issued. This price increase is necessary for the government to generate a revenue of more than Rs3 trillion in the ongoing financial year.<br \/>\nThe government recently announced the inclusion of radio fee in electricity bills, following the television fee model to generate additional revenue.
