\nPresident Dr Arif Alvi has urged the countrymen for setting aside differences and promoting compassion, tolerance and consultation to become a united nation and work for the development of Pakistan.
\nIn his message on Yaum-e-Ashura here on Friday, the president called for renewing the commitment to promoting the fundamental principles of Islam and adopting the teachings of Imam Hussain (RA) and trying to imitate his courage and steadfastness in their lives.
\nHe said on Yaum-e-Ashur, Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) rendered a great sacrifice at Karbala during the battle between truth and falsehood as well as for the protection of Islamic values. This battle was a struggle for the exaltation of Islam, which was characterized by a principled stance and unwavering bravery.
\nThe president said that Imam Hussain\u2019s stance against tyrant ruler Yazid was not for power or revenge, rather it was a principled stand for justice, protection of Islamic values and protection of Islamic society from corruption and oppression.
\n\u201cThis courageous act teaches us that we should not bow to oppression and wrongdoing, and raise our voice against injustice, no matter what the cost,\u201d he remarked.
\nHe said the conduct of Imam Hussain\u2019s companions, who stood by his side on that day of turmoil, taught us the importance of loyalty, righteousness and supporting those who struggle for truth and justice.
\nHe said the battle of Karbala taught us selflessness and sacrifice for the greater cause. Despite having low strength and numbers, Imam Hussain (RA) refused to give up on the principles and values of Islam.
\nPresident Alvi said that Imam Hussain (RA) sacrificed his life along with his family and companions to protect the true teachings of Islam. \u201cIt is a reminder for Muslims all across the world that we should give up personal comfort and desires for the greater good of society and the betterment of humanity,\u201d he said.
\nThe president said on Yaum-e-Ashur, we should keep in mind the importance of dialogue and understanding between different schools of thought. \u201cLet us stand united to uphold the values representing the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA). May God grant us the ability to learn from the sacrifices of Imam Hussain (RA) and move forward with courage, perseverance and boldness,\u201d he prayed.
\nEarlier, Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani and Deputy Chairman Mirza Muhammad Afridi said Youm-e-Ashura reminds the great sacrifice made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), in the battle of Karbala to uphold the values of faith and sanctity.
\nIn a message on the eve of 10th Muharram-ul-Harram, they said the profound sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) provides guidance in every aspect of life and by embracing the principles laid down by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), the society can effectively address the prevailing issues.
\nThe chairman and deputy chairman emphasized that the event of Karbala teaches the essence of selflessness, patience, and perseverance, for which no sacrifice is too great. It is the same path chosen by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to stand firm for the cause of truth, they added.
\nThey said, \u201cToday is a day of reflection on the profound thoughts and actions of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and the unwavering commitment of Imam Hussain (RA), his family and companions, who immortalized this day in the annals of Islamic history by attaining martyrdom in Karbala. Imam Hussain (RA) possessed the highest virtues, such as the fear of God, generosity, abstinence and courage and through his martyrdom, he set a shining example for all those on the path of righteousness throughout history.\u201d
\nThe chairman and deputy chairman further expressed that the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) is a timeless beacon of guidance for all those who strive to walk the path of righteousness. It leaves no doubt that his great sacrifice serves as an eternal source of guidance in all spheres of life, they maintained.
\nThey prayed for God\u2019s blessings upon Pakistan, wishing for peace, progress and prosperity, and urged everyone to embrace the real message of Youm-e-Ashura, which is rooted in the spirit of sacrifice.
\nSimilarly, former President of Pakistan and President Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians, Asif Ali Zardari while paying homage to Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his companions on the occasion of Ashura Day, said that the philosophy of Imam Hussain (A.S.) is the philosophy of the entire humanity and acts as a beacon of hope for us. The speech of Hazrat Bibi Zainab (S.A.) in the court of Yazid defeated him and acts as a testament of sheer courage till this day.
\nPresident Asif Ali Zardari said that to understand the religion of Islam, it is necessary to learn from the great sacrifices of the grandson of the Prophet SAWW.
\nAsif Ali Zardari said that the leadership of the PPP resisted the Yazidis of the time by following the philosophy of the Prophet SAWW as a torch of hope. Asif Ali Zardari said that a handful of elements suffering from Islamophobia are becoming a threat to the peace of the world. The governments of the countries should take steps to strongly discourage such elements who are against the teachings of our beloved Prophet SAWW.
\nAsif Ali Zardari said that the philosophy of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.) will remain as the perfect example of bravery, steadfastness, courage and fighting for one\u2019s rights.
