KARACHI
\nSindh caretaker Chief Minister-designate Justice Retired Maqbool Baqar will take the oath to his office in a swearing-in ceremony to be held on August 16 CM today. Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori approved the appointment of Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar as caretaker Chief Minister and also issued a notification.
\nThe governor while exercising his powers conferred on him under Article 224 (1-A) of constitution, accorded approval for appointment of former Supreme Court Judge, Justice (r) Maqbool Baqar as Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh.
\nChief Minister Sayed Murad Ali Shah also moved a summary to the governor for the appointment of caretaker Chief Minister as required by the constitution. The oath-taking ceremony of the caretaker chief minister of Sindh will be held on August 16.
\nThe governor gave his approval on the recommendation of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who sent the name to the governor on Monday night. Outgoing Chief Minister Shah and Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Rana Ansar reached a consensus on the name of Justice \u00ae Baqar as a caretaker chief minister after hectic three-day consultations which ended yesterday.
\nAccording to a statement issued by Sindh CM Office, \u201cAfter three-day consultations between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Leader of Opposition in the dissolved provincial assembly Rana Ansar, the two have agreed on the appointment of retired justice Maqbool Baqar as caretaker chief minister.\u201d
\nThe MQM-P also confirmed yesterday that consensus was reached on the name of Mr Baqar, saying that \u201cthe party has taken into confidence its partner before reaching the decision,\u201d adding that the MQM considered the Grand Democratic Alliance\u2019s (GDA) input.
\nJustice \u00ae Baqar\u2019s name as the caretaker chief minister was suggested by Murad Ali Shah, and Opposition Leader Rana Ansar approved the name on the advice of the GDA. Justice \u00ae Maqbool Baqar was born in 1957. He hails from Karachi. He did his LLB from University of Karachi and started practicing law in 1981. He was appointed the Sindh High Court judge in 2002 and then Chief Justice of Sindh High Court in 2013.
\nJustice (R) Baqar was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2015 and retired as a judge of the Supreme Court on April 4, 2022. He was also got seriously injured in a terrorist attack in June 2013. Nine people including his security personnel were martyred in the attack.
\nAs consultations for forming the caretaker Sindh cabinet go on, MQM has proposed names of Shoaib Siddiqui, Younus Dhaga and Fazlullah Qureshi while the PPP has forwarded names of Mumtaz Shah, Siddique Memon, Mushtaq Mehar, Ahmad Shah, Nisar Morayi and Mobeen Jamani.
