Electoral watchdog says delimitation of constituencies to be published on December 14
\nISLAMABAD
\nThe Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday formally announced mapping new delimitations that will remap the electoral politics in Pakistan.
\nAccording to a statement, a meeting of the electoral watchdog was held with Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in the chair. The meeting decided to conduct fresh delimitation across the country for the next general elections.
\nThe ECP has also issued a notification regarding the new constituencies and sought assistance from the provincial governments and the Department of Statistics of Pakistan too. The ECP said that the delimitation process will take at least four months.
\nThe ECP also issued the schedule for carrying out delimitations of constituencies in the notification. As per the schedule, the ECP has frozen the boundaries of Administrative Unites across the country from today (August 17, 2023) while on August 21, Delimitation Committee for each province including Islamabad will be constituted.
\nTraining of the Delimitation Committees will be held from Sep 1 to Sep 4 and the committee will determine and share the district quotas of seats for national and provincial assemblies from Sep 5 to Sep 7.
\nFrom Sep 8 to Oct 7, the committees will make preliminary delimitation of constituencies and on Oct 9, preliminary proposals for delimitation of constituencies along with a report will be issued. From Oct 10 to Nov 8, representation on preliminary proposals for delimitation of constituencies before the ECP will be filed and the Commission will hear the representations from Nov 10 to Dec 9.
\nThe final publication of delimitation will be done on Dec 14, 2023. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan Thursday also directed political parties to submit their consolidated financial statements for the fiscal year 2022-23 by August 29.
\nAs stated by the ECP spokesperson, political parties were obligated under Section 210 of the Elections Act, 2017, in conjunction with Section 204 of the same Act, along with rules 159 and 160 of the Election Rules, 2017, to submit their financial statements for the fiscal year ending on June 30th no later than August 29th, 2023.
\nAs a reminder, Section 210 of the Elections Act, 2017 stipulates that a political party must, following the outlined procedure, furnish the Commission with a consolidated audited financial statement within 60 days after the conclusion of a financial year.
\nThis statement, documented on Form-D, should encompass yearly income and expenses, fund sources, as well as asset and liability information. The report that needs to be provided to the ECP must include an accountant\u2019s audit report of the political party\u2019s accounts, along with a certificate signed by an authorized party member, as designated by the party head.
\nThe ECP emphasised the importance of avoiding overwriting. They also instructed that the membership or certificate from ICAP for the engaged Auditor should be attached to Form-D, along with the most recent valid renewal certificate. \u2014 DNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
