\nAwami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has raised doubts over holding the elections within 90 days. The former interior minister said it\u2019s an important question when and how the elections would be held in the country. \u201cIt is clearly written in the constitution that elections will be held within 90 days after the dissolution of National Assembly,\u201d he said. Taking to social media website X (formerly Twitter), the veteran politician said the petition of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in the apex court for a decision on elections held great significance.
\nThe Election Commission had already made it clear that it would accept the decision of the apex court related to the elections, he added.
\n\u201cA constitutional amendment is mandatory to raise the number of seats in the National Assembly and the ECP is well aware of it,\u201d Rashid said.
\nHe added that Shehbaz Sharif\u2019s government made laws only for personal interests during his last 15 days in the government.
\n\u201cIt seems the outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan may give some important decisions during his last few days in the office,\u201d he said.
\nThe AML chief was of the view that half of the Senate would fall vacant on March 11 at midnight (after the retirement of senators). \u201cIt is a constitutional obligation to hold elections before March 11 otherwise, a crisis will emerge,\u201d he added.
