\nPakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to call next meeting of its Central Executive Committee in Lahore next week to further deliberate on general elections, delimitations and the country\u2019s overall political situation.
\nSources privy to the development stated that PPP CEC summit is likely to be held in the first week of September. However, the final date of the CEC meeting was yet to be finalised by the party leadership. The meeting will be attended by the top leadership of the party including former president Asif Ali Zardari, party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
\nThe meeting would be briefed on party\u2019s recent meeting with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding elections, say sources. The CEC will mull over various options including organising All Parties Conference (APC) and engaging with other political parties on delay in polls matter, they say.
\nIn its CEC meeting held in Karachi recently, the PPP formed a 5-member committee comprising Syed Nayyar Bukhari, Sherry Rehman, Faisal Karim Kundi, and two others on early polls.
\nPPP reiterates call for timely elections Earlier, Pakistan People\u2019s Party (PPP) on Tuesday reiterated its demand for holding of next general elections within the constitutionally mandated 90-day period in a meeting with Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officials.
\nTalking to journalists on Tuesday following meeting with ECP, PPP leader Nayyar Bukhari said that Article 224 of the Constitution mandated a timeframe for elections following an assembly\u2019s dissolution and that it should be acted upon.
\n\u201cThe stance we adopted today is that the PPP wants the ECP to announce a new election date and the schedule for it,\u201d Bukhari said, adding that there is restlessness in the nation, and it is very \u201cimportant to announce election date and schedule\u201d.
\nHe further said that the PPP would formulate its next plan of action after a meeting of its central executive committee (CEC) in Lahore where the ECP\u2019s response to today\u2019s meeting would be discussed.
