KPCAN called upon the govt to implement provincial climate change policy in letter and spirit

\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Climate Action Network (KPCAN), a volunteer network of people belonging to different walks of life, underscored community based fight and local actions to tackle the impacts of climate change on human and non-human things in the province and demanded implementation the provincial climate change policy in letter and spirit.
\nThe consultation session was organized by the provincial chapter of Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO), is a non-profit organization, in Peshawar to engage the active and key stockholders of the network to discuss and formulate future course of action to minimize climate crisis and vulnerabilities of community through cohesive initiatives.
\nIt is pertinent to mention here that KPCAN, first of its kind network, is composed of journalists, right activists, government officials , local government representatives, social mobilizers, researchers from academies, civil society members, and religious leaders from minority communities and Islamic scholars.
\nThe latest session of the network was attended by the stakeholders including representatives from District Forest Office, Directorate of Community Development, Extension And Gender Development, Public Health Engineering Department, Provincial Disasters Management Authority, Directorate General On Farm Water Management, Directorate of Soil & Conservation, Diverse Faith Leaders, Climate Activists, as well as Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).
\nThe session shed light over the importance of effective networking to understand the challenges posed by climate change to the human population and discussed in detail the creative actions needed to initiate the processes of mitigation and adaptation critically required for tackling climate-related challenges.
\nThe significance of concerted actions to minimize climatic vulnerabilities was highlighted, emphasizing the need for cohesive initiatives.
\nFazli Ghafoor, Programme Officer SPO shared with the participants about the ongoing efforts, accomplishments, and future plans for enhancing climate resilience.
\nDuring the meeting, the Network Terms of Reference (ToR\u2019s) were thoroughly reviewed and acknowledged as pivotal in aligning KPCAN\u2019s initiatives with its overarching objectives.
\nSayed Ali Shah, Deputy Chief Executive of PRDS and Chairperson NHN KP-Chapter, assumed the role of Chairperson, while Ms. Tayyaba Batool, Chairperson of Ayesha Foundation, was appointed as the Secretary General for KPCAN for 2023-2024.
\nThe participants demonstrated enthusiasm and determination in their commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at addressing climate challenges and pledged their unwavering support and cooperation in implementing the Specific Action Plans (SAPs) of KPCAN for the year 2023-2024.
\nThe event highlighted the urgent need for coordinated endeavors to enhance climate resilience and foster sustainable initiatives in the region.
